The Ram 1500 TRX needs no introduction. It's been on sale for a while now but nothing has yet come along in the truck segment to challenge the TRX's 702-horsepower supercharged V8 engine. The Ford F-150 Raptor R should change that once it arrives around a year from now. But the privilege of driving off in a TRX doesn't come cheaply, and an already expensive truck has received a rather substantial overall price hike for the 2022 model year.

Taking into account both an increase in the base price and in Ram's destination charge, the TRX is over $3,000 pricier than the 2021 model it will replace. That price difference could buy you many tempting options if you order a 2021 model instead, which remains available via the Ram website.

Whereas the 2021 TRX has an overall price of $72,120, the 2022 model costs at least $75,275. Those numbers include a $100 minimum for the cheapest paint option and destination charges. For the 2021 model, the destination charge was $1,695 and the base price was $70,325, whereas those figures jumped to $1,795 and $73,380 for the 2022 version. The net difference is exactly $3,155.

Looking at the options for the 2021 TRX, you could add the TRX Level 1 Equipment Group for only slightly more at $3,420. This package adds many extra features like power front seats, power-adjustable pedals, a garage door opener, a heated steering wheel, nicer interior materials, and more.

What you can't get on the 2021 TRX is the TRX Ignition Edition. Reserved for the 2022 model, this special upgrade isn't cheap at $9,200 but adds 18-inch machined-face black wheels, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, two-tone paint with an upper body in orange, TRX Ignition Edition graphics by Mopar, and carbon fiber interior accents. Those are just a few of the extras. By adding the TRX Ignition Edition upgrade, you are compelled to spec the TRX Level 2 Equipment Group for $9,995. At that point, your 2022 TRX will cost a whopping $94,370. Tick another few boxes and the TRX is officially a six-figure truck.

Unless you're going to load up your TRX with options, we'd suggest saving what you can and getting a 2021 model before production of this model year stops.
