Back in April, Audi lifted the wraps off the refreshed 2021 A3 Sedan, updating the luxury sedan with bold new styling and a revamped interior. At the time, Audi only revealed specifications for the European A3 sedan, but now the German automaker has released new details for the version that will be sold in the US. The updated Audi A3 sedan won't arrive in the US until late 2021, meaning it will be sold as a 2022 model.

In Europe, the Audi A3 Sedan will be offered with a choice of three powertrains, including two 1.5-liter TFSI three-cylinder gasoline engines and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel. The TFSI can also be paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid. In the US, however, the 2022 A3 will only be available with a 40 TFSI powertrain featuring a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system.

Performance specifications are still being kept under wraps for now, but Audi confirmed this setup will produce more power than the current Audi A3, which is rated at 184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque with FWD and 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque with AWD. Like the current model, FWD and AWD will be available for the 2022 Audi A3 Sedan. Sadly, the six-speed manual offered to European customers won't be on the 2022 Audi A3 options list in America - the only transmission option will be a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Compared to the outgoing model, the 2022 Audi A3's length will increase from 175.5 inches to 177.2 inches, while the width will increase from 70.7 inches to 71.7 inches. It will also be 0.6 inches taller than the outgoing model with a height of 56.3 inches, but the wheelbase will remain the same at 103.8 inches.

Expect the styling changes applied to the European 2021 A3 to carry over to the US model, including a large Singleframe honeycomb grille, standard trapezoidal LED headlights, and redesigned taillights. Likewise, the interior updates will also carry over, meaning the 2022 Audi A3 Sedan will be equipped with a standard 10.1-inch display integrated into the center console and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster, which can be upgraded to 12.3 inches. A head-up display will also be optional.

Pricing for America's refreshed Audi A3 Sedan hasn't been announced yet, but the MSRP will most likely increase. For reference, the 2020 Audi A3 Sedan starts at $33,300 in America.
