Sales for the M8 clearly have not been as strong as BMW had hoped. Dealers have been struggling to sell the luxury coupe and convertible, leaving BMW with no option but to axe the M8 Coupe and Convertible from its US lineup for the 2021 model year.

As a result, the M8 Gran Coupe was the only version of the 2021 M8 available in the US. The future of BMW's luxury grand tourer was looking bleak in America, but we're happy to report that there's still life in it yet. Mercifully, BMW has confirmed the M8 Coupe Competition and Convertible Competition are returning to America for the 2022 model year. The regular M8 Coupe and Convertible will not be returning, however.

There's more good news too because both models are getting a big price cut. For 2022, the BMW M8 Coupe Competition starts at $130,000, making it $3,000 cheaper than the 2020 M8 Coupe and $16,000 cheaper than the 2020 M8 Competition Coupe. As for the M8 Convertible Competition, pricing for the 2022 model starts at $139,500. Again, this makes it $3,000 and $16,000 cheaper than the 2020 M8 Convertible and 2020 M8 Convertible Competition respectively.

Under the hood, the M8 Coupe Competition and Convertible Competition are powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine producing 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.

Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, this enables the M8 Competition Coupe to hit 0-60 mph in three seconds, while the M8 Competition Convertible will do the same sprint in 3.1 seconds. Let's hope this significant price cut helps boost the M8's sales. BMW is also preparing to give the 8 Series a facelift, which will likely arrive for the 2023 model year.

BMW has added a slew of updates for its 2022 models across the board, including new standard equipment and color options. The 2022 BMW 3 Series, for example, is now available with Live Cockpit Professional as standard, new Oxide Grey Metallic and Aventurin Red Metallic color options, and new Perforated Sensatec upholstery.
