Chevrolet has released the first details of the 2022 Corvette Stingray. As we reported earlier this year, three new colors will be available: Hypersonic Gray, Caffeine, and Amplified Orange Tintcoat.

Other exterior additions include a new low-profile rear spoiler and a sportier front splitter. Both these features were previously part of the Z51 Package but will now be offered as standalone options.

Underneath the skin, Chevrolet made a few upgrades. The LT2 6.2-liter V8 boasts an upgraded direct injection fuel system and improved engine calibration.

According to Chevrolet, the Active Fuel Management range has been enhanced. The latter is basically a cylinder deactivation feature, which disengages four of the eight cylinders under a light load. This will likely lead to improved fuel consumption figures, but no official figures are available yet.

These changes have not affected the engine's power output. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will soldier on with 490 horsepower, or 495 hp with the available performance exhaust. Power is still sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to Chevrolet, it should do 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds when equipped with the full Z51 Package.

Both coupe and convertible models will still be available. The 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trim levels are left unchanged, and all models can be equipped with the Z51 Performance Package.

Customers no longer have to add the Z51 Package to get Magnetic Ride Control. It will also be available as a standalone option, though no pricing has been released yet.

Dealers will start taking orders at the beginning of next month, and production is set to start in the third quarter. Pricing starts at $62,195 for the coupe and $69,695 for the convertible. These prices exclude tax, title, license, and destination fees.

Chevrolet has made a basic visualizer available while waiting for the full 2022 model configurator to go live. All the model images in this article were made using this rudimentary toy. The three new colors are featured, but if it was our car, we'd spec it in Rapid Blue with Black Trident, Bright Red brake calipers, High Wing carbon fiber spoiler, and Adrenaline Red seats.
