Hatchback

The Honda Civic hatchback is one of our favorite little cars, and we're quite excited to see if the new one is as fun to drive as the old version. Spy shots of the all-new model have surfaced recently, and it definitely looks like its styling will be a lot more restrained going forward, even on the Type R version. But even with a subtler design, it seems that those tasked with styling the car couldn't resist throwing a spoiler on the car. A video taken in Columbus, Ohio, has captured the 2022 hatch dressed in camo that hides almost everything - except a bulge on the rear.

It takes a keen eye to tell that this is a Civic, let alone realize what may be hiding under that awful camo cover, but some have commented on the video and pointed out that this car wears the Civic Si's wheels and has dual-exit exhaust tips, just like the sporty sedan. But the shape of that rear end indicates to us that this is definitely a hatch we're looking at. Could there be an Si coming in hatch form? Possibly, but it's more likely that the hatch will just get some sporty styling cues to help it transition from its former - and garish - design.

We'll have to wait until the summer to see if any of the above guesses are correct, but hopefully more will be revealed in the time between now and then. The new Civic hatch will be built here in the US instead of the UK like the old one and will have to fill the void of the coupe model too, as just the sedan and hatch will remain for the 2022 generation and on. And if you're worried that Honda is adding sporty elements to make up for a vanilla powertrain, fear not - the new Civic Type R will be gasoline-powered. We expect the regular hatch to retain some of that car's fun DNA.
