2022 Kia Seltos Gets A Cool Upgrade From The Telluride

Pricing / Comments

The Seltos adopts a sportier Nightfall Edition.

One of our favorite subcompact crossovers has just got better after the 2022 Kia Seltos received a small update for its second model year. The changes aren't too drastic, mostly focusing on adding more standard safety technology across the lineup. The rumored Seltos EV has yet to emerge, however.

Under the hood, the same engines carry over from last year: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 146 horsepower and a 1.6-liter turbocharged unit with 175 hp.

Every Seltos trim now includes forward collision avoidance, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, lane follow assist, and automatic high beams as standard equipment. The front-wheel-drive S and all-wheel-drive LX, S, EX, and SX trims all remain, while a new Nightfall Edition AWD trim joins the lineup for 2022.

The Nightfall name recently appeared on the hot-selling Telluride, helping the three-row crossover to stand out with black accents and an exclusive Wolf Grey color. Kia offers Nightfall packages on the Sportage, too, dressing up the interior and exterior.

Instead of an optional package, the Seltos Nightfall Edition is offered as a new trim level, paired exclusively with the turbocharged engine and AWD. It includes 18-inch matte black alloy wheels, a black grille, roof rails, and rugged side sills. Kia did not mention what other colors would be available on the Nightfall Edition, but white is confirmed as an option.

Slotting below the top SX trim, the Nightfall Edition essentially takes the place of last year's S 1.6T model. Pricing for the LX trim starts at $22,490, while the S trim starts at $22,690 ($24,190). The S trims now include a 10.25-inch display with navigation, UVO link connectivity, and remote start. Stepping up to the EX costs $25,790, the Nightfall Edition is the cheapest way to get the turbocharged engine at $26,690, and the SX trim tops out at $27,990. Inside, Kia added a new plum interior color option on the SX trim.

All prices exclude a $1,175 destination charge. Expect the 2022 Seltos to arrive at Kia dealerships soon.
