Lucid UX 2.0 introduces more convenience and safety features to the sleek sedan.
Lucid Motors has rolled out its biggest-ever software update for the luxurious 2022 Lucid Air. Lucid UX 2.0, as it's known, introduces a host of new features and revisions - at no cost to the owner whatsoever.
The automaker says the update essentially benefits every user touchpoint in the vehicle, such as the "instant-on" function of the Glass Cockpit and Pilot Panel displays. The on-screen layouts have also been redesigned, while the Dream Drive driver assist system gains Highway Assist.
Let's take a closer look at these changes.
The "instant-on" display brings convenience to the driver; once buckled up, the car is ready to proceed. The revamped screen layouts see commonly-used apps - navigation, media, and phone - moved to a more ergonomic position. The navigation system and maps have also been updated, with turn-by-turn directions now situated right ahead of the driver.
Lucid owners will enjoy the enhanced range prediction, making it easier to plan when next to charge the car. The built-in Alexa voice control system also allows occupants to operate the climate control from the rear seat. Lastly, using third-party media apps will prove easier than before, thanks to an enhanced browsing experience.
On the safety front, several revisions have made the Lucid Air a safer vehicle. The rear pedestrian collision protection, for example, now operates when the car rolls backward with the drive gear engaged. The visual cues for the parking sensors have been improved as well. The aforementioned Highway Assist has active lane centering and adaptive cruise control.
The headlights have also benefitted from their fair share of updates. The High Beam Assist, which can detect other vehicles, can now identify other light sources and switch to low beam when appropriate. The headlight leveling adjusts the lighting with a sensor that measures height and vehicle angle.
Lastly, Lucid has improved its convenience features. Those in colder climates will appreciate the new De-Ice mode that uses the wiper blades, wiper fluid, and defroster to clear ice that may be hindering one's view. Elsewhere, the automatic locking/unlocking has been made easier to use, while the traditional key fob and Mobile Key now have additional settings.
While these updates are great for existing owners, there are many customers still waiting to receive their motorcars. As a result of supply chain issues, Lucid has had to reduce its production outlook twice already; no more than 7,000 vehicles will leave its factories this year - which is worrying when you consider the 37,000+ outstanding reservations.
Hopefully, the planned factory expansion will alleviate some of the production issues.
