Polestar has been planning an expansion for this year, spurred on by increased investment from Volvo. The company has been offering new ways of attracting customers, including the option to get your car serviced at home, but the best way to get a new customer is with a new vehicle. Last month, we saw a more powerful version of the Polestar 2 make a surprise debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and now the Swedish EV maker has announced its updates for the 2022 model year.

As part of these, a new single motor variant is available as the most affordable model in the lineup and offers the longest range. It starts at $45,900 before various federal and state incentives and has an estimated EPA range of 265 miles. Polestar says with the maximum number of incentives applied, it's as cheap as $34,900. The Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus, for reference, has a 263-mile range and costs as little as $34,190 with all incentives applied.

The Polestar 2 Dual Motor remains the halo for the Polestar 2 range, but for 2022 starts at an MSRP of $49,900 before incentives and as little as $38,900 after. Its 408-horsepower setup provides 249 miles of range, an increase of 16 miles over the 2021 car.

As for the optional packages, Plus and Pilot packages can be added to either variant. The Plus Pack costs $4,000 and offers a mechanical heat pump designed to increase the vehicle's range by as much as 10% under certain conditions (read: cold climates). The pack also adds a panoramic glass roof, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, and WeaveTech vegan upholstery. The Pilot Pack costs $3,200 and adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera. Finally, the Performance Pack costs $5,000 and adds adjustable Ohlins dampers, forged 20-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, Continental tires, and 'Swedish gold' trim accents. The latter package is only offered in the Dual Motor variant.

Polestar also offers some standalone options, included a ventilated Nappa leather interior for $4,000 and unique 20-inch wheels for $1,200. $1,200 will also buy you a semi-electric tow bar or metallic paint. As before, you can book a test drive and buy a car online, but Polestar is continuing to work on its expansion and aims to have 25 showrooms opened by the end of the year. The Polestar 2 looks better than ever, and with more range and affordability than ever before, the brand continues to impress. Now we're just waiting to see what the Polestar 1 will be replaced with.

Gregor Hembrough, Head of Polestar in North America says, "We are excited to introduce the expanded Polestar 2 range, which offers an ideal configuration for every lifestyle. As we roll the brand out to 20 new US markets this year, we have the product, pricing and convenience to place Polestar at the top of consumer shopping lists."

Deliveries of the single motor long range model are expected to begin at the end of the year, while the 2022 Polestar 2 Dual Motor variant deliveries are scheduled to start at the end of October 2021.
