We recently saw a teaser for a new special edition for the upcoming 2022 Subaru Ascent SUV. It previewed a new Onyx Edition, which is already used as a trim level for the Outback. Subaru just revealed the 2022 Ascent, along with full pricing. The 2022 model year changes are minimal aside from the new Onyx Edition trim, which isn't bad news. Subaru says it hasn't increased pricing for the new model year, meaning the Ascent still starts at $32,295 (plus a $1,125 destination and delivery fee).

The 2022 Ascent now comes in five trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring. All models come with a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine producing 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Only one transmission choice is available, a Lineartronic CVT sending power to a Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.

The new Onyx Edition slots above the Premium trim but below the Limited trim at $37,995. It includes all the features found in the Premium but adds automatic reverse braking, a hands-free power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, and a push-button start. On the exterior, this model features black-finish accents, special badging, and 20-inch black alloy wheels, giving it a meaner appearance.

Inside, the Onyx Edition gets seven seats wrapped in Subaru's durable StarTex synthetic non-leather material. Unlike some other Ascent trims, the Onyx Edition is not available with eight seats. There is only one option package available for the Onyx Edition, priced at $2,200. This includes niceties such as a panoramic moonroof, built-in navigation, and retractable cargo cover.

Pricing for the remaining trim levels goes as follows: $34,795 for the Premium, $39,595 for the Limited, and $42,545 for the Touring. Every Ascent model comes standard with Subaru EyeSight technology, bundling adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, steering-responsive LED headlights, and high beam assist.

As with last year's model, the Ascent is built at Subaru of Indiana Automotive alongside the Impreza, Legacy, and Outback.
