Time for an update after only one model year.
Like the 2023 BMW 8 Series lineup, the 2023 Alpina B8 Gran Coupe is receiving a minor refresh for the upcoming model year. The regular 8 Series coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe were revealed last week. Today, it's the Alpina's turn.
As BMW's semi-official tuning house, Alpina has a long history of taking already great BMWs and adding its own unique set of touches. The same goes for the 2023 B8 Gran Coupe, despite hitting the market only last year. The biggest design tweak is, once again, the new illuminated grille on the front fascia. No changes were made to the rear end. Because it's an Alpina, customers can select from brand-exclusive exterior paint colors, specifically Blue Metallic and Green Metallic. Additional color options include Portimao Blue, Sanremo Green, Skyscraper Grey, Frozen Pure Grey, or Frozen Tanzanite Blue.
If none of those are suitable, customers have a number of special paint options via the BMW Individual catalog. Nothing has changed under the hood and that's just fine. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 delivers an outstanding 612 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Expect a 0-60 mph sprint time of just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 201 mph.
That power is channeled to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic, the very same gearbox found in the 8 Series but Alpina worked with the manufacturer, ZF, for more dynamic shifting. Alpina also fitted the car with a custom exhaust system. Buyers will further enjoy a limited-slip differential, gorgeous 20-spoke Alpina wheels, and an upgraded suspension and brakes.
Step inside and you'll experience the same dual-screen setup found in the '23 8 Series. A 12.3-inch Live Cockpit Professional display is now standard, replacing the current 10.25-inch unit. Alpina's own displays for the digital instrument cluster remain unchanged. Additional custom touches include a crystal glass iDrive controller with a lasered Alpina logo and illuminated Alpina door sills. And, of course, each car's sports steering wheel is hand-finished and covered in leather. Every B8 Gran Coupe receives its own plaque in the center console.
Like the current model, the 2023 B8 Gran Coupe is expected to be sold in the US though official pricing has not been announced. For reference, the 2022 model begins at a hefty $140,895, with destination.
