Production of the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has officially kicked off, with brand new examples now rolling off the Bowling Green assembly line. Production was expected to commence on May 9 but, due to a postponement, it was delayed until May 25.

This applies only to the Stingray model; it seems those waiting on the Z06 to thunder down the assembly line may have to wait a bit longer - production dates for the high-performance variant are still to be decided. 2023 Stingray production follows nearly two months after order books opened on April 7. The Z06 70th Anniversary Edition remains unavailable to order due to a supply issue surrounding the special edition's unique 19-inch wheels.

With the new model year, the Corvette Stingray's MSRP sees an increase of $1,050. With any luck, 2023 production will prove less challenging for General Motors. In December 2021, the Kentucky-based facility was plagued with myriad issues, including a tornado that sent over 120 Stingrays to the scrapheap. Compounding the problem is sky-high demand for the all-American sports car - something unscrupulous dealers are all too willing to exploit.

The highly anticipated Z06 hasn't even made its way down the assembly line and, already, dealers have placed excessive premiums upon the MSRP, despite warnings from corporate to avoid doing just that.

GM says offending dealers will be stripped of their Z06 allocation if found guilty of so-called market adjustments. The communique sent to dealers reads, "GM will be forced to take action if it learns of any unethical sales practices or brokering activities […] this letter serves as notice that GM reserves the right to redirect your vehicle allocation."

Some dealers aren't too concerned about this - one retailer has already placed a $100,000 markup on the Z06. Hopefully, this price gouging soon comes to an end. For GM's sake, we hope production runs smoothly for the 2023 model year, as numerous customers are itching to slide in behind the wheel of Chevy's talented sports car.
