If you want a Ford truck that is off-road capable but not as off-road-dedicated as a Raptor, you get a Tremor. The Tremor lineup has recently expanded, first with the heavy-duty F-250 and the full-size F-150, then with the smaller Ranger. The Tremor family has now enlarged to four models with the introduction of the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor. The package is available on XLT and Lariat trim trucks with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. Sadly, there's no frugal Tremor Hybrid model.

As before, the EcoBoost engine delivers 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque going out through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard, but the Tremor package adds a twin-clutch rear-drive unit with a differential lock to allow for superior off-road ability. It can send nearly all available torque to either of the rear wheels depending on which one needs grip.

The Maverick Tremor includes five drive modes for pavement, mud, sand, snow, and towing plus Trail Control, which acts like cruise control for off-road. As part of the off-road upgrades, the Tremor adds a one-inch lift kit, unique springs and shocks, a heavy-duty transmission cooler, and upgraded half shafts. Since it doesn't have the 4K Tow Package, the Tremor is slightly limited with a 2,000-pound towing capacity and 1,200-pound payload capacity.

To differentiate the Tremor from a standard Maverick, Ford gave it unique styling cues such as a bespoke grille finish, 17-inch wheels with an orange accent, all-terrain tires, lower front fascia, aluminum skid plates, and blacked-out logos, headlights, and taillights.

Inside, the cabin includes Black Onyx seats with stitched Tremor logos. The signature Tremor Orange accent color is seen throughout the interior, including the center console, air vents, and door pulls. You can purchase the Tremor Off-Road Package for $2,995, while the Tremor Appearance Package adds $1,495. We don't have official pricing for the 2023 Maverick just yet, but based on last year's model, a Maverick Tremor should cost around $30,505 in XLT trim (for both packages) or $34,005 in Lariat guise. Orders will open this September.

"Ranger, F-150 and SuperDuty customers have embraced the unique off-road capability, technology and appearance updates found across our Tremor family of trucks," said Todd Eckert, Ford truck product marketing and brand manager. "Maverick Tremor delivers on this same promise with new functions and features designed for off-roading-all while keeping the truck's signature size, affordability, and Built Ford Tough durability and capability."
