For the 6th-generation Ford Mustang, the 2023 model year will no doubt be its most disappointing yet. Not that this is a bad thing. Not only has Ford basically perfected the 6th-gen muscle car, but the brand new 7th-generation Mustang has just made its debut.

That car, frankly, has a lot going for it over the older pony car, and Ford clearly knows it. In fact, after Ford published the updated order guide for the 2023 model year, we've found that Ford has simply decided to just keep selling it as is, with only three exceptions.

N/A

On the main models (fastback and convertible, EcoBoost and GT), the major change is that Ford won't sell two colors. Unfortunately, they include the striking Cyber Orange and Brittany Blue Metallic.

We've seen Cyber Orange slowly disappear from the Ford lineup of late, which is really a shame, as that's one of the Blue Oval's better colors. Ford dropped the color from the 2023 Maverick and also axed it from the Ford Bronco lineup.

The latter was a huge surprise, as that was the launch color for the Bronco, although it appeared on the Mach-E GT order books. We know this was supposed to be about the S550 'Stang's final model year, but it's ended up as a bit of a send-off to one of Ford's better colors.

In addition to the loss of Cyber Orange, Ford has tossed out a classic Mustang color that dates back to the late 60s. Brittany Blue has, in one form or another, been part of the Mustang lineup since the early days of the car. Ford reintroduced the color for the 2022 model year, and it appears that, like Cyber Orange, it just didn't sell.

The other major change for the lineup is that, as previously reported, the Shelby GT500 won't be sold for the 2023 model year, leaving the Mustang Mach 1 as the most powerful model you can currently buy. When the new generation hits showrooms, this will be replaced by an even more powerful Mustang Dark Horse.

While some colors have been ditched, several special editions and styling packages have been retained or added for the new year. These include the terribly-named Mustang Nite Pony Package, which acts as the antithesis to the Mustang Ice White appearance package. The Nite Pony Package, which until now was confirmed by images but not with any hard facts, includes black-painted 19-inch alloy wheels, a black decklid spoiler, black pony badges, mirror caps, grille, and a black roof.

It is available on EcoBoost and GT models, as well as fastback and convertible body styles. On the GT, it also equips darkened GT badging.

While the changes may be few, this is your last chance to order one of the most iconic and transformative Mustang generations of all time. The 6th iteration of the muscle car was the one that really transformed the 'Stang, taking it from dad's muscle car to a sports car that more than just your dad wanted to own.
