2023 Genesis G90 Has The Looks To Fight The S-Class

Reveal / Comments

Badge snobs will be missing out.

Genesis is rapidly expanding its lineup with new SUVs like the GV60 and GV70, but let's not forget how well Hyundai's luxury brand does sedans. The fun-to-drive G70 is one such example, but now the flagship G90 has been revealed with a thoroughly fresh design. The outgoing G90 had a stately appearance but wasn't necessarily considered beautiful. Well, the new one is a vast improvement. This is a stunning full-size sedan with the presence required to take on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Genesis says the new G90 is the most elegant interpretation of its Athletic Elegance design philosophy, and for once that sounds like more than just marketing speak.

In front, the brand's well-known Crest Grille has a layered architecture finish with two G-Matrix patterns on top of each other. This has created a striking three-dimensional effect. The Two-Line design headlamps are the slimmest ever created by Genesis, and the stretched turn signals on the sides continue this design theme. Along the side, the G90's Parabolic Line that gently flows from the hood to the trunk helps to make the large sedan look less bulky. The rear is sharper than before with a continuation of the Two-Line lighting theme. Pictured below is a long-wheelbase variant in a moody blue. Stretched by 7.5 inches, the added length is clearly visible in the rear doors.

The LWB model will receive a special set of 20-inch wheels, and it will no doubt offer stretch-out space in the back seat. However, Genesis has not yet shared official images of the cabin. Previous spy shots of the interior show that it will come with a digital gauge cluster and the usual central infotainment interface, and the ventilation outlets have a new design. Under the hood, expect a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 producing close to 400 horsepower. An electrified model is also a possibility.

The new Genesis G90 should go on sale in the US sometime next year as a 2023 model. If the rest of the car lives up to the snazzy design, there's a lot to get excited about.
