Polestar is taking sustainable motoring very seriously. Just recently, it detailed how it went to great lengths to make the handsome Polestar 2 even more environmentally friendly. Now, the Swedish EV maker has announced new pricing for the Model 3 rival. Despite the luxurious innards and upmarket styling, you could have a Long-range Single motor of these on your driveway for just $48,400 - or $40,900 with the $7,500 tax rebate.

Elsewhere, a host of improvements have made the driving experience even better. Polestar has bettered the range, with the dual-motor variant now able to travel an EPA-rated 260 miles between charges; this represents an 11-mile increase. Customers in colder climates will be pleased to know the carmaker has also fitted the updated Polestar 2 with an upgraded heat pump, allowing for better performance in less than ideal temperatures.

Available as part of the Plus Pack, software changes allow the heat pump to boost range by as much as 10% compared to the standard model. Thankfully, this handy trick will be extended to owners of older models; Polestar will roll out over-the-air updates for existing models with the heat pump, free of charge. The minimalist design has also benefitted from several changes, such as new paint and upholstery options.

Previously the reserve of the elegant Polestar 1, the company's second-ever model gains a striking black hue called Space, along with a champagne shade known as Jupiter. New designs have been applied to the 19- and 20-inch wheel options.

The big news comes in the form of the Performance Pack. Available only on the dual motor model, the software upgrade yields more power and torque, bumping the figures up by a substantial 68 horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torque. As a reminder, the standard dual-motor Polestar 2 produces 408 hp and 487 lb-ft.

Those in the US looking to get their hands on the updated Polestar 2 are in for a wait. The company has said deliveries of the EV will commence in September this year, with both models available at the same time. The single motor derivative comes in at just $48,400 before incentives, while the more powerful (and arguably more exciting) dual motor will sport a price tag of $51,900.

Despite the premium pricing, the updated Polestar represents superb value for money within its segment. With incentives, the powerful dual-motor could come out at just $44,400 - not much more than the starting price of a Mustang Mach-E. Polestar has great ambitions to become a big player in the EV sphere and, judging by its revised model, it certainly has what it takes to get there.
