The 992 generation Porsche 911 range is due for its mid-life update. It might sound hard to believe that the 992 is already a few years old. And like every previous generation, Porsche continues to evolve its signature model. Earlier this month, our spy photographers caught the refreshed 992 911 Carrera coupe out doing cold-weather testing and now the convertible body style has been spotted doing the same.

As with the coupe, the convertible is getting a redesigned front bumper with improved air intakes plus an interesting vertical slat design enabling for them to be opened and closed depending on cooling requirements. What you need to ignore on this test mule are those strange-looking lights at the front corners.

They're there only to hide the new daytime running lights and turn signal indicators. Porsche obviously doesn't want us to see what those new designs look like just yet. The taillights are getting a new, more futuristic look which will further help keep the 992 looking fresh for several more years. There's a good chance the iconic ducktail spoiler will return on a separate new trim. Also like the coupe, the convertible now boasts a redesigned diffuser and has center-mounted exhaust tips. Why is that?

Although we cannot confirm 100 percent just yet, an inside source at Stuttgart has indicated the facelifted 992 will be receiving the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that's currently in use in the excellent 911 GT3. Chances are this won't be the base model (assuming the rumor is true) but rather a new trim mid-range trim.

The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six that dishes out 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque is expected to remain the entry-level offering. Due to arrive for the 2023 model year, the 992.2 911 is due to receive some significant interior enhancements, too. Specifically, it'll be getting the fully digital dash similar to what's in the all-electric Taycan. The prototype shown here was driving so we were unable to get a peek at specific interior details.

Porsche has not announced an official reveal date yet but there's a chance it'll happen at the LA Auto Show next November - exactly four years after the 992.1 made its debut appearance.
