While many aspects of the automotive world are constantly changing, one thing that seems to always remain constant is the success of the Toyota Corolla. To maintain its relevance in the market, the Japanese brand will be issuing the range with a series of updates that includes a subtle redesign and a new choice of engines.

Based on insider information sourced by Creative 311, a facelifted Corolla will be released in Japan this year. Before its arrival, it is understood that the company will be implementing a countdown sale strategy for the current range. The final number isn't confirmed but the Corolla hatch and sedan production will be put on pause once a certain amount of orders are reached.

What can we expect with regards to visual highlights? The information sourced hints at a new design for the headlights and taillights as well as the front grille. There will also be partial changes to the choice of paint colors and to make the cabin of the Corolla more accommodating, the driver's seat will be provided with a bit more headroom.

The most interesting update that will be made to the Corolla range is the rumored discontinuation of the existing 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. This will be exchanged for the hybrid 1.5-liter three-cylinder Dynamic Force unit that is currently being used in the Yaris range with an output of 114 horsepower. It's understood that this will exist alongside the current turbocharged 1.2-liter four-cylinder option.

The changes highlighted here are specific to the Japanese market models. Our Mississippi-built examples could feature some different changes when they are updated but these pieces of information certainly give us an idea of what we can expect. One subject that is left up in the air is the lifespan of the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline option which is not available in Japanese Corolla models.

Unfortunately, the information drop doesn't detail any specifics regarding the anticipated GR Corolla hot hatch that has been treated to a series of teasers over the last few months. However, it is understood that the GR Yaris's turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine will be implemented with an all-wheel drive system with your choice of a manual of automatic transmission. In the GR Corolla, we could expect a power output of as much as 300 hp.
