Alfa Romeo has revealed the pricing of the 2024 Tonale, and if you haven't been keeping up with the crossover's rollout in America, you may be disappointed. When the vehicle was originally unveiled, there were rumors that Alfa wanted to launch it in the US with a base price in the region of $30,000-$35,000. But then Dodge kicked a hornets' nest with its Tonale-based crossover, which it markets as the most powerful SUV for under $30k. Alfa Romeo was not impressed with this decision, noting that "margins are thin" in the Tonale's segment, and in November last year, the Italian automaker announced that it would only sell the pricier hybrid version in the US.

So, where does that leave us? With a bigger MSRP: the cheapest Tonale Americans can buy starts at $42,995.

$42,995 is the base asking price for the entry-level Sprint model. The mid-level Ti adds another $2,000 to the Sprint model's pricing, while the range-topping Veloce starts at $47,495. All of these prices exclude Alfa's $1,595 destination charge and federal tax credits. Unfortunately, you can only pre-order the more expensive models at this time, with the Sprint to become available later in the first quarter of 2023.

According to the automaker's configurator, production begins late in March, with the first units expected to begin arriving at dealers in mid-May 2023 and deliveries to begin in the spring, continuing throughout the year.

As a refresher, the Alfa Romeo Tonale plug-in hybrid features a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder producing 177 horsepower on its own steam. This is complemented by a 90 kW electric motor adding 122 hp for a total of 272 hp.

The pure-combustion Tonale that we are longer getting access to boasts a 2.0-liter turbo-four offering 256 hp, while the Dodge Hornet uses a similar configuration to produce 268 hp. The Hornet is also offered as a hybrid in R/T form, but the 1.3-liter engine and electric motor amount to an impressive 285 hp. The top version of this sporty crossover costs $44,995. Sorry, Alfa.
