Aston Martin has launched the configurator for the new DB12, the latest in a long line of grand tourers from the Gaydon-based brand. As you would expect, there is an endless amount of personalization options to choose from, with multiple exterior colors, interior finishes, and accessories to choose from.

The brand describes the DB12 as a "super tourer," suggesting it's a blend of a supercar and a grand tourer. In keeping with that theme, we've gone for a sporting yet sophisticated shade called Ion Blue. This dark hue works beautifully with the curvaceous exterior and underlines the elegance of the svelte coupe.

Ion Blue is just one of 10 colors available in the "Purples & Blues" category. A total of 54 finishes are up for grabs, with some of the standouts being Storm Purple, Hyper Red, Cosmos Orange, and Titanium Grey.

Aston Martin also offers several exterior packages. Customers can choose between a Gloss Black, Carbon Fiber, or Body Color lower body package. The upper parts of the DB12 are privy to Gloss Black or Body Color finishes. We've gone for the Body Color trim, as it complements the elegant design of the latest Aston.

Up front, the prominent radiator grille can be specified in the "Bright" or "Dark" finishes. Both are appealing, but the former's silver finish works well with our Ion Blue color. This is very spec dependent, though, as the "Dark" grille would look great with white or black paintwork.

The chosen grille will likely influence the wheel choice. Aston Martin offers just three rim designs. Thankfully, there are multiple colors to choose from.

The five-spoke forged wheel in Gloss Silver is a tad basic for such a pretty vehicle. We're guessing most customers would go for the multi-spoke forged design (available in Satin Platinum, Satin Black, and Satin Black Diamond turned) or the intricate Y-spoke wheel that swaps Satin Platinum for a left-field Satin Bronze hue. All the available options are sized 21 inches, which is generously sized for a GT car.

We've gone for the Satin Platinum Multi-spoke wheels; understated and sporty, it pairs well with the rich blue paint. At this price point, we'd like to see more than five colors for the brake calipers. Then again, we're glad Aston Martin allows customers to customize this small detail. Steel brake discs are standard, but carbon ceramic items are available, presumably at extra cost. Aston Martin doesn't show pricing for optional extras - that would be too common.

Lastly, customers have to choose between traditional taillights with a red lens or a more stylish smoked effect. We've gone for the latter, as it suits the contemporary persona of the DB12.

The interior is a masterpiece and a massive improvement over the outgoing DB11. Aston Martin has developed an entirely new infotainment system, which you can read about here. The luxury brand offers two seat designs: the hardcore Performance seats or the more appropriate Sports Plus seats. We've chosen the more practical (and probably more comfortable) Sports Plus design.

After that, Aston offers nine interior themes, including Inspire Comfort, Inspire Sport, Accelerate, and Create.

Inspire Comfort provides the most choice (in terms of upholstery color). From demure shades like Onyx Black and Oxford Tan to vivid colors like Cote d'Azure Blue and Californian Poppy, there's something for everyone.

Depending on the chosen interior theme, Aston Martin offers its well-to-do clients various personalization options for stitching, headlining, and leather detailing. It doesn't end there, though. Just about every aspect of the cabin can be customized, with six shades for the seatbelts, eleven shades for the plush carpets, and five trim inlays.

A neat touch is the ability to mix and match the door card trimmings with the center console. As such, a buyer could pair traditional wood veneer with brushed aluminum, or carbon fiber with dark aluminum. We've gone for a blend of wood and aluminum, as an homage to Aston DB models of years gone by.

Let's not forget the interior jewelry, which covers the paddle shifters and metal switchgear. These components can be optioned in a subtle Satin Dark Chrome or a more lavish Satin Silver.

Optionally, customers can choose from a Bowers & Wilkins 1,170-watt surround sound system, seat ventilation, and black Aston Martin exterior badging. A carbon fiber interior package is also available, presumably at extra cost. Aston Martin also has a variety of lifestyle packages for clients to choose from. This includes a high-end luggage set, golf bags, and even a pet pack.

Sadly, the V12 powerplant has been discontinued. The remaining V8 engine is a peach, though, and provides 671 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.

Pricing for the DB12 starts at around $250,000 before options, which we imagine would send that figure soaring. Someone has already purchased the first model for $1.6 million. Happily, however, the proceeds were donated to charity. The DB12 is just one of several new Astons heading our way in the coming years, so we've got plenty to look forward to from the Gaydon-based brand.
