It's the same turbocharged engine used in the Stinger.
The 2024 Genesis G70 has been revealed for the South Korean market, and it sports a significant change over the existing model in North America.
Genesis has replaced the current 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in favor of a 2.5-liter unit. This is the same engine that debuted in the Kia Stinger when it was facelifted for the 2022 model year. As in the Stinger, this engine produces 300 hp and 311 lb-ft. The 2.0-liter engine in the current G70 is rated at 252 hp and 260 lb-ft.
Genesis has yet to confirm whether the larger turbocharged four-cylinder will be available to the US market, but it will likely happen later this year. Sources predicted that the G70 would receive a second facelift before a second generation arrives in 2026, and now we can confirm that those rumors were true.
The 2.5-liter engine isn't the only new addition for the 2024 model year. Base models now include Brembo brakes and adaptive suspension as standard, which were previously limited to the V6 model. Speaking of which, the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 remains unchanged with 365 hp and 376 lb-ft.
Sadly, the G70 will not get the improved 3.5-liter engine from the G80. The V6 is available on the sedan, while the Shooting Brake (not available in the US) can only be had with the four-cylinder.
Outside, the Genesis badge is revised, and the G70 rides on fresh 18- and 19-inch wheels. Genesis also added two colors to the pallet, Kawah Blue and Bartna Grey, both pictured above.
There are fewer changes inside, but customers benefit from a new steering wheel, a USB-C port, a touchscreen climate control screen, a frameless rearview mirror, and new two-tone color schemes. The options include Obsidian Black with Fog Grey, Obsidian Black with Vanilla Beige (pictured above), and Forest Blue with Vanilla Beige.
Genesis (and other Hyundai Motor Group brands) typically reveal vehicles for the home market in South Korea before announcing similar changes in other markets. We expect to see a US-specific announcement later this year.
Pricing should remain similar to the 2023 model.
