The model will arrive at dealers in late 2023.
Last year, Lexus debuted the fifth generation of the Lexus RX and introduced three all-new engines for the beloved crossover. These existing engines are now joined by the first-ever 2024 RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid model.
The model was initially supposed to arrive in 2022. Instead, it arrived fashionably late and with a hefty starting price of $70,080, including the destination fee. It sits at the top of the RX range, offering a phenomenal manufacturer-estimated 83 MPGe rating. It also comes with a 35-mile electric-only driving range.
The plug-in hybrid joins three other turbocharged four-cylinder and hybrid powertrains. The base setup is a turbocharged 2.4-liter which produces 275 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque and is available in FWD and AWD RX 350 models.
The next step up is the base RX350 h hybrid with 245 hp and 233 lb-ft of torque and a solid 33 MPGe on the combined cycle.
This leads us to the speed demon of the group, which is the RX 500h. The former range-topper slots in underneath the new plug-in hybrid at $62,000 sans destination charges. It's also equipped with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, an eAxle rear motor, an inverter, and reduction gearbox that produces a very impressive 367 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Lexus says it can sprint from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds.
The new RX 350+ variant is a tad slower, with a 0-60 mph time of just 6.2 seconds. Still, this model is more about fuel economy than anything else, as proven by its impressive fuel consumption and electric-only driving range.
It features the same eAxle setup as the regular hybrid but is powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery.
The charging time is roughly two-and-a-half hours if you have access to a 240V outlet. If you plug in every night and your commute is less than 35 miles, it's a win.
Interestingly, the most expensive RX model isn't the most powerful one. Still, Lexus makes up for this by offering as many luxury features as possible, like 21-inch wheels, a 14-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, and the excellent Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite of safety and convenience features.
The model will arrive at the end of 2023 and will most likely sell like hotcakes.
