The latest Rolls-Royce Phantom debuted back in 2017 and has remained the same ever since, save for a few special editions. That's about to change. Our spy photographers recently caught a Phantom test mule undergoing testing as part of its facelift program. Specific details still remain under wraps but there are definitely a few minor exterior design updates in store.

Up front, the headlights will receive new graphics and the grille also looks like it's receiving a minor nip/tuck. The exhaust pipes are now hidden under the bumper instead of sticking out. Overall, don't expect any significant changes here but the interior should be getting additional attention. The infotainment system will be updated with the latest features from parent company BMW. Our sources also tell us more safety systems are due to be included in the standard package.

But the big question is what will happen to the 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine? Bear in mind Rolls-Royce is planning for an all-electric future beginning with the Spectre coupe sometime in 2024. Save for a few updates, the V12 is more than likely going to stay put. We don't expect any significant power enhancements beyond the already solid 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque.

We're being told the updates will involve enhancements to improve emissions. At this point in the Phantom's lifecycle, it's not worth Rolls-Royce's time and money to make any major V12 changes. That money is needed towards EV development and the like. The refreshed Phantom should debut sometime next year as a 2024 model.

That'll certainly be an interesting year for the legendary marque because it'll mark the beginning of its EV shift. It remains to be seen how longtime brand loyalists will react to this but the carmaker is counting on a younger generation to embrace the change. More traditional customers are more likely to be somewhat hesitant towards a purely electric Rolls.

That's why the Spectre has a lot to prove beginning on day one. Rolls-Royce hasn't announced any specs, but we predict the Spectre will have a minimum range of 300 miles on a single charge and a total output in excess of 600 hp.
