Cadillac's incredible Celestiq range-topper is already sold out for the next 18 months, according to GM executives.

In an interview with Autoline Network, Cadillac chief engineer Tony Roma said, "we already have quite a few hand raisers. Many, many more than we're going to be able to build in the first year or 18 months. We're going through the process of who is the right person to have it and who is the right person for the brand," he explained.

"It's a fantastic problem to have that we've [garnered] so much interest."

At the unveiling of the luxury electric vehicle, Cadillac said the Celestiq would be produced in "extremely small numbers" at GM's Global Technical Center in Michigan. No more than six units will be built at a time to ensure that each and every model is lavished with heaps of care and attention.

With a price tag of $300,000, commentators had concerns that Cadillac was out of its depths by wanting to compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. But based on Roma's comments, it seems the high-end market is responding well to the pricey Cadillac.

The all-American automaker has put a lot of work into ensuring the Celestiq is a true luxury vehicle. We've already previewed Cadillac's four design themes that preview potential customization options. This certainly isn't your grandma's '86 Coupe DeVille; clients can select from rich Santorini leather, textured trim inlays, and an array of high-class materials.

Customers will be treated to a unique experience and will carefully personalize their Celestiq with a dedicated design team. The company has even said that if would-be owners aren't satisfied with the available shades of paint, they can specify a bespoke color.

"Celestiq provides an unparalleled freedom of expression for the client to create their dream vehicle with a multitude of possibilities to customize and personalize their interior and exterior through an immersive experience guided by the Concierge and Cadillac Design Team," explained the company's Laetitia Lopez at the time of launch.

It should be exciting to drive, too.

Cadillac estimates the Celestiq's 111-kWh battery pack and dual electric motors provide 600 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque - more than enough to hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. The electric range is currently pegged at 300 miles, but this could change as the vehicle inches closer to production in December 2023.
