At the beginning of last year Chevrolet announced plans to debut a new Camaro special edition every six months. The idea was to re-introduce names synonymous with the Camaros of yesteryear, and since Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheimer revealed the company's intentions we have seen the Camaro ZL1, borrowed from the 1969 model of the same name, a Transfomers Edition taken from the recent movie franchise as well as a 45th anniversary edition. We've put together a selection of these unique Camaros, along with a model by Hennessey Performance we think you'll enjoy.

Starting with the most recent special edition, the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition debuted at the SEMA show and is set to arrive at Chevy dealers early next year. The Hot Wheels Camaro sports graphics-accented Kinetic Blue metallic paint and red-rimmed 21-inch wheels and grille, and will be available in coupe and convertible form. Exterior highlights include a full ground effects package and the ZL1's spoiler and grille. A two-tone matte hood graphic and rear taillight panel blackout graphic and Hot Wheels flame logo on the fender, grille and decklid complete the look. The cabin is trimmed in black leather with red and black stitching and Hot Wheels logo embroidered on the front seats, doors and sill plates.

The Dusk Edition was introduced in the summer sporting the RS appearance package, HID headlights, 21-inch alloys and a special Blue Ray Metallic paint job. Inside, the cabin features bespoke Mojave leather upholstery with yellow stitching, a unique shift knob and steering wheel, and Ice Blue ambient lighting. Available in either coupe or convertible body-styles, production of the Dusk is time- and not volume-limited, with production ceasing on this particular special edition at the end of December.

In April 2011, Chevy released its 45th Anniversary Edition Camaro. The package, available for the top level trim of the Camaro regardless of engine, includes an asymmetric hood and trunk-lid stripes, new 20-inch rims, a spoiler and HID headlamps. The interior is swathed in commemorative 45th Anniversary logos, red, white and blue contrast stitching is also found on the seats, steering wheel, shift boot, armrests and center console. Sadly, the package does not offer any performance mods.

When the third installment of the Transformers movie series hit the big screen in June 2011, Chevy announced the fifth generation black-and-yellow "Bumblebee" Camaro. The 2012 Transformers Special Edition model boasts Autobot badges on the fenders, black rally stripes on the hood, roof and tail, unique high-wing rear spoiler and black 20-inch alloy wheels complemented with Autobot-logo center caps. The interior received black leather surfaces with sharp yellow stitching adorned with Autobot logos on the headrests and center console lid.

Last year, Hennessey Performance marked its 20th anniversary by offering a special edition Camaro SS. Just twenty of the 20th Anniversary HPE650 Camaros were made as a convertible or hardtop coupe, complete with supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine good for 655hp and a 0-62 mph time of 3.7 seconds. Special features include the exclusive black paintjob, HPE engine management calibration, lowered coil-over suspension, CarbonAero front splitter and side skirts, Hennessey Monoblock wheels in chrome or silver finish, and a 20th anniversary edition serial-numbered dash and engine plaques.
