The Volkwagen Touareg may not be as fast or expensive as its older brother, the Cayenne, but that doesn't mean that tuners have completely ignored it. An increasing number of tuning companies have put the Touareg under the knife, equipping the German SUV with all manner of sporty exterior accessories and upgrading its engine. VW has even gotten in on the act, creating a small handful of special edition models. Continue below to check out the goodness that is a tuned Touareg.

ABT Sportsline took the Touareg under the knife, giving the German SUV more power and a sexy new look. The tuned Touareg features a new grille, updated side skirts, a new rear apron and a giant roof spoiler. ABT Sportsline bumped the power of the Touareg's 3.0-liter TDI V6 from 236hp to 278hp or 305hp, depending on how much power you want, with the 4.2-liter TDI V8 getting a bump 335hp to 380hp.

JE Design is responsible for the tuned Touareg you see here. The German tuners added a wide body kit featuring a new a front spoiler, wheelhouse arch extensions, rear apron insert, roof spoiler and a rear hatch blend. Under the hood the SUV's 3.0-liter TFSI engine gets a boost from 379hp to 440hp. Capping off the $27,504 package is a pneumatic electronic suspension lowering module.

Volkswagen has just announced the Touareg Edition X, a special edition model designed to celebrate the SUV's 10th anniversary. The SUV features 19-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, silver anodized roof rails, bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and darkened rear light clusters. The interior features Napa amber brown leather, real ebony inlays on the doors and instrument panels and illuminated front door sills with Touareg X lettering. The Touareg Edition X sells for the princely sum of $79,527.

The sporty Touareg seen here is equipped with the VW's R-Line Sport Package. The exterior upgrade-packed package adds a new a front apron, new side skirts, roof spoiler, rear apron and a diffuser which surrounds the chrome tailpipes in matte black. VW has made the package available only on the V8 Touareg.

Many moons ago (five years), Edo Competition tuned a Touareg V10 TDI. The tune job sported an extremely flashy paint job and a mild boost in power (both 70 horsepower and 70 lb-ft of torque were added). Other added goodies included 6-piston calipers up front, 22-inch wheels, an air suspension system with a lowering module, wider fenders, some chrome parts and new pipes in the rear.
