Audi has just announced pricing for its very limited production R8 GT for the U.S. market. With a price set at $196,800, it's quite a price increase from the "entry-level" 4.2-liter V8 ($114,200) and 5.2-liter V10 ($149,000). Still, this price is less than what a German buyer would have to pay, as the same car will cost $269,300 in Germany. All told, there will only be 90 units slated for U.S. buyers.

The 2012 R8 GT has a number of performance and styling enhancements over the standard R8 V10 model. The 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine is upgraded to 560 hp (an additional 35 hp) and a series of weight-saving measures that cut nearly 220 lbs over the 5.2 Quattro. There's a specially tuned suspension and ESP systems, carbon ceramic brakes, and a new body-kit. It's mated to an R-Tronic sequential manual transmission and has a top speed of 199 mph and a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.6 seconds.
