Since the 2022 Formula 1 season, Sir Lewis Hamilton has not been fighting at the front for race wins. The seven-time F1 Champ's contract with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team is also set to expire at the end of this year. Both these factors beg the question of where his future in the sport lies outside of his exploits producing films about it.

While there are no confirmations about Hamilton's next stint, the 38-year-old driver expressed his desire to stay in Grand Prix racing. One of the racing series he showed interest in testing is IndyCar - America's version of open-wheel auto racing.

"It's not a dream for me to go and race in another series, but I am an admirer and a fan of racing and other sports, so I always like to try," said Hamilton when speaking to the media at the Miami F1 GP. "I sometimes watch IndyCar. I'd love to try one of those cars at some stage."

Hamilton is yet to be in an IndyCar, but if he would have a go at it, the British racing driver said he prefers to complete a few laps in the America racing series' "old-school" car without the windscreen.

"I'm not a big fan of the big screen that they have now, but like the old-school cars they have, the cars sound and look good."

Apart from IndyCar, the owner of two Mercedes-AMG One hypercars (one a gift for his dad, Anthony) is also keen to try MotoGP and NASCAR, an American stock racing series that uses nameplates including the Ford Mustang, Toyota Camry, and Chevrolet Camaro. "I did a car swap with Tony Stewart [NASCAR driver] years ago, which was fun; I'd love to try it at some stage," he said. "It was an amazing opportunity when I got to swap with Valentino Rossi and try a MotoGP bike."

With plenty of opportunities awaiting Hamilton, it would be interesting to see what's next for him. But, before we get ahead of ourselves, he did speak about staying in F1, keeping the fantasy of seeing an eight-time F1 champion in our generation alive.

"But right now, my focus is solely on Formula 1. So I don't plan on leaving here anytime soon," Hamilton concluded.
