In acceleration and braking tests, the formidable 1,200hp Porsche beat the most lucrative supercar.

You might have never heard of the mechanical phenomenon that calls itself the 9ff Porsche GTurbo R. The 1,200hp monster came out on top in acceleration and braking tests, conducted by Sportauto-online.de. In doing so, it beat a few, more conspicuous names such as the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, McLaren MP4-12C, Jaguar XKR-S, Porsche 911 GT3 RS4.0 and a Nissan GT-R tuned by ImportRacing.

The 9ff Porsche made the full trip from standstill to 186.4mph and back to standstill in just 21.5 seconds, beating the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 SS by 3.8 seconds and the ImportRacing Nissan GT-R by 5.9 seconds. 15 cars turned up for the occasion, though none of the Italian big names was present. Only five of the competitors were OEM vehicles (series production cars) and the rest tuned-up versions by various firms. The Bugatti set the benchmark with an acceleration time of 2.7 seconds to 62mph followed by the Speedart BTR-II 650 EVO at 2.8 sec. and the McLaren and Speedart BTR-II 600 Cabrio on 3.3 sec.

During the 62-124mph phase, the 9ff Porsche GTurbo R began to flex its muscles. Though the Bugatti was still faster to 124mph (in 7.3 seconds), it was only 0.3 seconds in front of the 9ff. The 9ff opened full throttle, settled in the right gear and broke the 186.4mph barrier in 14.2 seconds, ahead of the Bugatti on 17.9 seconds and the ImportRacing Nissan GT-R on 22.9 seconds. The Speed BTR-II 650 EVO on 28.1 seconds was fourth fastest ahead of the McLaren MP4-12C at 31.0 seconds. As can be seen from the numbers, the 9ff needed 7.1 seconds of acceleration from 124 mph to 184.6mph while the Bugatti did it in 10.6 seconds.

The McLaren needed no less than 21.3 seconds to complete the latest acceleration phase. Don't tell Hamilton and Button. Braking down to a standstill was a much closer affair. The best performer was the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, which needed 6.5 seconds. The McLaren came in second at 7.1 seconds and the 9ff in third at 7.3 seconds. The overall winner was the 9ff Porsche GTurbo R. It was tuned by 9ff Fahrzeugtechnik of Germany and prices at 199,000 Euro, not including VAT. Its engine, a 3.9-liter 6-cylinder boxer, is tuned up to 1,200hp and a max torque of 848 lb/ft. The engine is assisted by a Garrett water-cooled turbocharger.

The engine head and valve train have 'suffered' all the upgrades and advancement possible and the gearbox is a sequential Holinger 6-speed racing device. Massive enhancements were also done to the chassis, brakes and wheels. The top five test results: (0-186.4-0 mph): 1. 9ff-Porsche GTurbo R - 21.5 sec. 2. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 SS - 25.3 sec. 3. ImportRacing Nissan GT-R - 30.4 sec. 4. Speedart BTR-II 650 EVO - 35.8 sec. 5. McLaren MP4-12C - 38.1sec.
