€5 Million 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa is the Toast of the Monaco Auction

Classic Cars

Last weekend a mind-blowing collection of classic and modern Ferraris went up for auction in Monaco.

RM Auction's biennial Monaco sale was held over the weekend, when €33,521,710 was spent on some of the finest automobiles in existence. Ten cars achieved individual sales of over €1 million, four lots exceeded €2 million, while several cars achieved all-time records. Bidders hailed from 33 different countries and by the end of the event 22 different Ferraris spanning 60 years of production had been sold.

Chief amongst them was an exceptionally rare, one of only two 1957 Ferrari 625 TRC Scaglietti Spiders ever made, offered for sale for the first time in 30 years. The rarest of all Testa Rossa models ever produced, spirited bidding ended with a bid of €5,040,000, a record for the model and far exceeding its €2-3m estimate. The next biggest sale was a 1952 Ferrari 225 Sport Spyder 'Tuboscocca,' which sold for €2,520,000; the same price was paid for a historically-significant 1966 Ferrari 206 S Dino Spyder, one of only 18 examples ever built. Other famous Ferraris sold included a 1987 Ferrari F40 prototype and a 2006 Ferrari FXX Evoluzione.
