Ram launches configurator for its Hellcat-powered TRX.
Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to do some budgeting; immediately after unveiling the new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, the first pickup truck to feature FCA's supercharged Hellcat V8, the company launched a Build & Price tool for the high-performance off-road brute. This means you can already go through all of the available options, packages, and paint hues, and price out the new 702-horsepower truck exactly the way you want it.
The new Ram 1500 TRX starts at $69,995 before tax, title, destination, and other fees. That's an absolute bargain, in relative terms; although it's substantially more than, say, a Ford F-150 Raptor, the TRX's starting price is some $17,000 below that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which uses the same supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 for power.
The first option to sell out on the new Ram 1500 TRX will undoubtedly be the $12,150 Launch Edition package, which is only marked for 702 production units. It adds pretty much all the goodies a TRX fan could ever want: TRX exterior graphics, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, 19-speaker audio by Harmon Kardon, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, head-up display, red interior accents, a special "TRX Launch Edition" console badge, and plenty more little odds and ends.
But there are some trade-offs with that. For one thing, Launch Edition trucks are only available with Anvil Gray exterior paint, so hopefully you weren't expecting something a tad brighter. For another, it requires the selection of a $7,920 Level 2 Equipment Group, pushing the price above $90,000 in exchange for things like heated and ventilated seats, front and rear; a heated steering wheel; remote keyless entry with remote start; eight-way power-adjustable front seats and power-adjustable pedals with memory; and high-tech features like a surround-view camera and rain-sensing wipers.
Load up the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX with every extra-cost option you can manage and you'll be looking at a price tag just a hair shy of $100,000 - or just over, as soon as you include the $1,695 destination charge. To save a few bucks on the most powerful production pickup truck ever made, we recommend following a simple principle: if you don't need it off-road, don't option it. That's how you get the most bang for your buck.
Production of the new Ram 1500 TRX is slated to start in the fourth quarter of this year, which is just a couple of months away.
