The original Volkswagen Beetle may have been the supposed "people's car," but it also turned out to be a damn decent off-roader. Of course, numerous modifications were required in order to make that possible, but the end result was the so-called Baja Bug. Thanks to tubular front and rear bumpers, fiberglass fenders, meatier wheels and an upgraded suspension, an old Beetle can be turned into one fun-loving sand dune ready vehicle. Baja Bugs also partook in the famous Baja 1000 off-road race in Mexico's Baja peninsula.

Today, Baja Bugs remain popular and the crew over at Motor Trend's Dirty Every Day took a pair of Bugs out for some off-road fun. At the same time, the guys demonstrate that it's not so hard to start your own off-road club if you have the desire to do so.
