With all the controversy surrounding the new design direction of the 2021 BMW 4 Series, it's easy to forget its larger 5 Series sibling received a styling update as part of a 2021 model year facelift. Unlike the 4 Series, most enthusiasts will agree the styling changes are an improvement over the outgoing model.

With new electrified powertrains also joining the engine options list, the updated BMW 5 Series is a huge step up from its predecessor, but that hasn't stopped German tuner, AC Schnitzer, from taking the luxury sedan to the next level with an assortment of styling enhancements and performance upgrades.

Under the hood, the 5 Series Sedan and the European Touring wagon get a power increase from 333 hp to 400 hp in the 540i, while the M550i has been boosted from 530 hp to 620 hp, giving it M5 Competition levels of power. The German tuner is also working on performance upgrades for the diesel engines offered in Europe.

A stainless-steel sports exhaust system available with twin chrome or black tailpipes and Sport or Carbon Sport trims provide a more thunderous soundtrack, while the diesel models get a quad exhaust system available in Sport or Sport black trims.

All models can also be lowered by around 0.9 inches at the front and 1.3 inches at the rear using the tuner's suspension spring set. The modified 5 Series rides on custom wheels available in 20- or 21-inch sizes.

To improve the luxury sedan's aerodynamics, AC Schnitzer can fit a new front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser. The sedan can also be fitted with a roof spoiler, rear spoiler, or a carbon fiber rear wing generating more downforce, while the Touring is only available with a roof spoiler. These aero upgrades are only available for models with the M Sport Package. Inside, the interior can be upgraded with gear shift paddles and pedals finished in aluminum along with a matching footrest and aluminum cover for the iDrive controller and key holder.
