The Acura ZDX, the premium brand's first-ever electric vehicle, will arrive next year sporting a Google built-in operating system. The Ultium-based EV will be the first Acura model to offer this feature, which allows for "seamless on-the-go connectivity" thanks to features like Google Assistant, Google Maps, and additional apps via Google Play. This will be standard on all ZDX trims, meaning buyers won't have to upgrade or fork out extra cash for the experience.

As electric vehicle owners will attest, finding a nearby charging station is not always easy. Thanks to an enhanced version of Google Maps, ZDX owners can easily find charging facilities. The built-in Google Maps functionality will provide special route planning to accommodate recharging, even preconditioning the battery when you're en route to a DC fast charging station.

For many, the latest and greatest in-car technology can often be overwhelming. Acura is hoping Google built-in will make the lives of motorists easier thanks to the addition of Google Assistant. Instead of fiddling with the touchscreen and buttons, the driver can use the voice-activated system to adjust the climate control temperature, make a phone call, set a reminder, or even set a destination on the navigation - all while keeping your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.

If you're not feeling the song you're listening to or missed something on a podcast, Google Assistant will happily skip to the next track or rewind simply by telling it to do so. Another handy feature of Google built-in is the ability to download third-party apps via the Play Store, which means you can access your favorite audiobooks and music - much like you would on your tablet or smartphone. Volvo and Polestar, for example, let you download YouTube straight to your car.

We've seen a similar setup available in the Accord, and it looks like Honda and Acura products going forward will adopt the same philosophy.

Notably, the Acura ZDX will retain wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. As the ZDX (and Honda Prologue) are based on GM's Ultium platform, many feared these models would do away with the aforementioned apps. While GM has decided to go that route, Honda has said the ZDX and Prologue will retain these popular features.

Acura promises its posh EV will receive a standard digital driver's display, a large center touchscreen, and the company's first pocket-type wireless smartphone charger. Additionally, the vehicle will be constantly updated by over-the-air software updates that will enhance functionality and capability.

The ZDX, and its sportier Type S sibling, represent a new digital era for American Honda, with 100% of all Acura EV sales expected to happen online from early 2024.
