Genesis has released pricing for the first-ever Electrified GV70, a fully electric version of the GV70 compact luxury crossover. For the Advanced trim that comes standard with all-wheel drive, the new Electrified GV70 will start at an MSRP of $65,850, rising to $72,650 for the fully loaded Prestige. As expected, these prices are far higher than for the gas-powered GV70, which starts at a much more affordable $43,150.

Thankfully, the Genesis Electrified GV70 is equipped to an extremely high standard, and its dual electric motors ensure swift and effortless acceleration. As the first Genesis to be built in the USA at the Montgomery, Alabama facility, the Electrified GV70 could potentially qualify for tax credits under the new Inflation Reduction Act as it is locally assembled and comes in below the $80k price cap for SUVs, but this is still to be confirmed as local assembly is only one of the criteria to be met in order to receive the credit.

At the Electrified GV70's price, you could save close to $7,000 by buying the Tesla Model Y Performance. The Tesla is quicker, recently received a price cut, and can go over 300 miles on a fully charged battery, whereas Genesis claims just 236 miles for the Electrified GV70. But the Genesis is also more unique and has a classier interior. Also starting at a lower price is the mid-size Cadillac Lyriq, which recently became even more affordable, while the Audi Q4 e-tron in its fully loaded Prestige guise starts at $62,900.

The Electrified GV70 Advanced comes with a wide array of features. Outside, you'll notice the 20-inch alloy wheels and the standard panoramic sunroof, while the inviting cabin gets soft leather upholstery. Both front seats are heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable, and the driver can also adjust the cushion extension and bolsters electrically.

An eight-inch digital cluster is joined by analog gauges, and there is a 14.5-inch HD screen with access to navigation. Wireless device charging, the Genesis Digital Key, a fingerprint recognition system, smart cruise control, and highway driving assist round out the generous specification that goes some way towards justifying the price.

The Prestige is even more lavish. Here, Nappa leather replaces the normal leather, and the second-row seats are also heated. The upper instrument panel is wrapped in leatherette, and there is a microfiber suede headliner. A 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster replaces the Advanced trim's analog gauges, but you can keep track of key information via the head-up display. A Lexicon premium sound system, a heated steering wheel, active noise control, and manual rear door shades also form part of the Prestige's specification.

The Electrified GV70 comes standard with a pair of electric motors, one in front and one at the back, with each producing 215 horsepower. That translates to 429 hp combined, but Genesis says this is the estimated output based on ideal conditions. There is also a Boost mode that adds 54 hp for ten seconds, further enhancing acceleration for short bursts. That means that the SUV can temporarily make 483 horses.

With a 77.4-kWh battery, fast charging at 350 kW will get the battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes. It's just a pity that the range doesn't get close to the generally desirable 300-mile mark, as do so many competitors. A convenient V2L (Vehicle to Load) function that supports a 3.6 kW charge can power various electric appliances if need be.

"The Electrified GV70 represents two important milestones as we continue on our journey toward full electrification by 2030," said Claudia Marquez, COO of Genesis Motor North America. "We are pleased to not only be growing our electric product portfolio, but also to be assembling Genesis products right here in America for the very first time."

The Electrified GV70 joins the Electrified G80 and GV60 in the brand's growing EV lineup as it aims to have an entirely electric lineup by 2030, on its way to achieving carbon neutrality across the brand's operations by 2035. Although availability of the Electrified GV70 will be limited initially, the brand is gradually expanding availability of its EVs.
