The UK publication Autocar is confirming an electric replacement for the Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV will arrive in 2026 and will be followed by a large sedan in the same vein as the Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air. The second generation of the Stelvio crossover is the brand's most popular model in Europe, which makes it a key product for electrification as Alfa Romeo moves forward. Chances are that Alfa will keep its electric Stelvio close in form and function to the existing model, as that's what it's doing with the already confirmed electric Giulia sedan.
The electric Stelvio will use Stellantis's STLA Large platform, which will also be used by Alfa's as-yet-unnamed new large executive sedan.
Both vehicles should use the same powertrain as the electric Guilia, at least for the base-spec model of the large sedan. That starts with 345 horsepower, while the Veloce model will come in with not much under 800 hp. That means hardcore variants will come close to 1,000 hp like the Giulia Quadrifolio. The current gas-only Stelvio Quadrifolio makes 505 hp.
It's likely the large sedan will appear in 2028 and probably alongside what Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato describes as a "built-up model," which is largely believed to be an SUV to rival the BMW iX and Mercedes EQE SUV.
The big sedan and SUV will be Alfa's key to, hopefully, finally making a dent in the US market as well as the even larger Chinese market. And range will be a key to the sedan's success, with the new luxury minimum being 350-400 miles. "If you speak about range, you speak about a sedan," Imparato said, which seems to seal the deal as a Lucid Air and Mercedes-Benz EQS competitor.
The hint from Imparato is that production of the new EVs would take place in Cassino, Italy, but it isn't confirmed. If so, it will add the cache of driving an Alfa Romeo electric vehicle. Also, a 1,000 hp Stelvio with a Quadrifolio badge will be amazing.
