New FWD platform will provide a roomier interior and cheaper production costs.
After spying the next-generation BMW X1 on a flatbed truck, we now have images of the compact crossover out testing on public roads in Germany. Internally called the F48, the all-new X1 will ride on the same FWD platform (UKL) as the upcoming BMW 1 Series GT and the next-gen Mini Cooper. The new platform offers more interior space while reducing production costs. FWD will come as standard and AWD will be offered along with a range of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines as well as a 1.5-liter turbo-three pot. The new BMW X1 is tipped to debut in September 2015.
