The current generation Mazda3 is one of our favorite compact cars. Even though there isn't a hot MazdaSpeed version, the Mazda3 is one of the most enjoyable cars in its segment. Having arrived back in 2013, the current third-generation Mazda3 is now starting to feel a bit old. We have known for a little while that Mazda was set to reveal the fourth generation car at this year's LA Auto Show in November and now the Japanese automaker has just released a short teaser video showing us what we can expect from this game-changing new model.

We say game-changing because the next-generation Mazda3 won't just be an above average compact car. The Mazda3 will be the first model in the company's lineup to include the revolutionary Sparkless ignition engine. The engine is called SkyActiv-X and it uses compression to ignite the air-fuel mixture rather than spark plugs. The result is a 35 to 45% increase in efficiency over a normal gas engine. Mazda will also supercharge the SkyActiv-X engine to deliver up to 30% more torque than the current Mazda3.

The teaser video doesn't show much, but we do get to see the rear end of what appears to be a red Mazda3 hatchback. We can at least be happy that Mazda will continue to sell the hatchback bodystyle and as long as it stays close to the Kai concept revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, it should look stunning.

The teaser also shows a grey car, which we assume is the sedan, although the video cuts to black before we get a good look at the trunk area. Mazda has titled the teaser "A New Era Begins November 2018," insinuating that this new Mazda3 will be taking the company in an entirely new direction with its all-new Kodo design language, which you can learn more about from Kevin Rice, Design Director Mazda Europe, in the video below.

The all-new 2020 Mazda3 will be revealed on Tuesday, November 27, 2018.
