America's 2020 Honda Fit Is Not The Car We Hoped For

Though it does receive advanced driver-assist features.

Honda unveiled its completely redesigned Fit subcompact, sold as the Jazz overseas, at this year's Tokyo Motor Show. This now hybrid-only model has bold new exterior styling that we feel is much improved over the current model. Unfortunately, the redesigned model is not coming to the US for the 2020 model year, as just confirmed by Honda.

Set to go on sale tomorrow (Monday) at Honda dealerships across the US, the 2020 Honda Fit is carried over from last year, meaning it's the same car that's been on sale since 2014. Honda has yet to announce when (or if) the redesigned model will make it stateside. In the meantime, the 2020 Fit, which remains an excellent overall car, comes equipped with new content, specifically the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist technologies, now standard on the EX and EX-L trims.

The base trim is the LX, followed by the more aggressively styled Sport, both of which can be had with a six-speed manual transmission. Moving up to the EX not only adds Honda Sensing, but also a CVT, while EX-L tacks on leather upholstery and other features. Regardless of trim, all 2020 Fits come standard with a 1.5-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine producing a total of 130 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque. The CVT remains optional for the LX and Sport.

Buyers who are focused heavily on achieving the best fuel economy possible should opt for the CVT, which provides the Fit with an EPA rating of 33/40/36 mpg city/highway/combined compared to the manual's 29/36/31 mpg rating.

The Honda Sensing suite includes desirable high-tech features like auto high-beam headlamps, Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward collision warning and pedestrian protection, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and road departure mitigation with lane departure warning. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard beginning with the Sport trim.

Pricing for the 2020 Honda Fit begins at $17,120 for the manual-equipped LX, including the $930 destination fee. The top end 2020 Fit EX-L is priced at $21,550, also including destination.
