It was only a few days ago when the Tesla Model S Plaid set a new EV lap record at Laguna Seca. With an impressive time of one minute and 28.2 seconds, the Model S Plaid came close to beating the all-time production car record set by the McLaren Senna. But that crown now belongs to the Czinger 21C, America's new 3D-printed hypercar.

With driver Joel Miller behind the wheel, the Czinger 21C lapped the challenging circuit in just one minute and 25.44 seconds. That was fast enough to beat the McLaren Senna's time of one minute and 27.62 seconds by almost two seconds, setting a new production car record. The record was set just a couple of months after the production Czinger 21C debuted, so it's certainly making a strong first impression.

If that wasn't already impressive, the American hypercar beat the Senna's previous record on two other laps, with times of one minute and 27.4 seconds and one minute and 26.6 seconds.

"It goes without saying that we are delighted with the performance of the car," said Ewan Baldry, Chief Engineer at Czinger. "To be able to achieve this lap time with a car that is going into homologated production is the result of some incredibly hard work from the Czinger team and in particular our ability to exploit the cutting-edge technology that we have access to through our close association with Divergent. The most exciting part is that we know we have more performance to come!"

Limited to only 80 examples, the Czinger 21C is powered by a mid-mounted 2.88-liter, twin-turbo flat crank V8 engine that revs up to 11,000 rpm, while the front wheels are powered by two electric motors. Combined, this setup generates 1,250 horsepower. An optional upgrade can increase the output to 1,350 hp. Since it has a dry weight of 2,733 pounds, the Czinger boasts a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio with all-wheel-drive, allowing it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in a mere 1.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 281 mph with the optional low drag Vmax configuration.

With these mind-blowing specifications, Czinger promises that the Laguna Sega lap record is just the first of many performance record attempts. The record-setting Czinger 21C will be on display at Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week from August 12-16.
