To replace the Mustang Bullitt, Ford is reviving the Mach 1 name for a new generation. Last week, we learned the new Ford Mustang Mach 1 will be sold globally, and now it's made its European debut at the 2020 Goodwood Speedweek. Visually, the European Mach 1 looks identical to its US counterpart, but there's one crucial change: a lower power output.

In the US, the Mach 1's 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V8 produces 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, but the European version has been detuned to produce 453 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque - that's 27 fewer ponies and 30 less lb-ft than the American model, which produces 480 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.

In a first for the Mustang in Europe, the Mach 1 is available with a high-performance TREMEC six-speed manual transmission, or the muscle car can be equipped with a ten-speed automatic transmission. Ford hasn't announced any performance specifications yet, but claims the Mach 1 is the fastest production Mustang around a track in Europe. The downgrade isn't surprising since emissions regulations are stricter in Europe, which also forced Ford to detune the Mustang Bullitt in Europe.

Like its US counterpart, Europe's Mustang Mach 1 features a unique suspension setup and a modified exterior evoking the Mach 1 Mustangs of the 1960s and 1970s, with prominent hood and side stripes, unique 19-inch alloy wheels, and a modified front-end featuring a new two-piece upper grille, new lower grille and splitter, and new side grilles that improve the aerodynamics and cooling.

The limited-edition Mach 1 is also available with a choice of eight body color, stripe, and contrast-line combinations inspired by the original car. Each car is individually numbered with a special plaque highlighting its exclusivity.

"The original Mach 1 delivered the ultimate in production Mustang performance and proved itself with success in motorsport," said Matthias Tonn, Mustang Mach 1 chief program engineer for Europe. "The new Mach 1 is the most capable Mustang ever to reach Europe, with track-ready ability and a unique style that is more than worthy of wearing such a legendary badge."

Pricing and availability details in Europe haven't been announced, but the US 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 starts at $51,720.
