The next model in AMG's Black Series could be based on the new E63 AMG sedan.
Mercedes? Good. AMG? Better. AMG Black Series? Now we're talking. Mercedes-AMG has built five vehicles in its Black Series until now, including the SLK55, CLK63, SL65, C63 and SLS. But the next model to get the balls-to-the-wall treatment could be the new E63 performance sedan. The report comes from Auto Express, which recently spoke with AMG's engine guru Dr. Jorg Gindele at the launch of the new E-Class. It would make the first time the Black Series approach would be applied to a four-door model.
Imagining where AMG could take the performance sedan is an interesting proposition, but it'd be safe to say that it would be even more powerful than the range-topping E63 AMG S-Model that cranks 585 horsepower out of the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8. A stiffer suspension, upgraded brakes and an aggressive carbon aero package would also likely fall into the mix. Gindele indicated, however, that the E63 AMG Black Series wouldn't likely come around until later in the new model's lifespan, so it could still be a few years off. In the meantime AMG is working on deploying its new performance all-wheel drive system in a wider variety of models.
