This is no ordinary supercar.
When Aston Martin and Zagato come together, it can lead to beautiful things – but rather rare ones. They only made 150 examples of the V12 Zagato in the earlier part of this decade, for example. And though there's a handful more to come, this will always remain the first. What's more is that it could be yours, if you have the means and place the winning bid.
What you're looking is apparently the very first customer example of the 2012 Aston Martin V12 Zagato, consigned to RM Sotheby's for its upcoming sale at Villa d'Este later this month.
The V12 Zagato, for those unfamiliar, was based on the previous Vantage, but was completely rebodied by the Milanese coachbuilder. As beautiful as it is, though, it was no show queen. It was closely based on the competition version that the factory raced around the clock at the Nürburgring. While fitted with a full leather interior, the road-going version retained the competition model's full aero package – from the front splitter to that big rear wing. And it packed Aston's long-serving 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12, driving 510 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
This first example was ordered in a greenish Scintilla Silver with a tan leather interior and wood trim, with yellow brake calipers and red badges.
Just who secured that first build slot, we don't know. It wears a Swiss country sticker on the tail, was spotted at a dealer in Geneva, and the door-sill plaque reads "Specially Built for NMS," whose mysterious initials are also stitched into the headrests. Whoever they (and it) belonged to, you can bet the next owner will pay handsomely to take it home at the end of this year's Concorso d'Eleganza on the shores of Italy's glamorous Lake Como.
