Hatchbacks may still be the norm when it comes to EVs, but these days you can get fully electric sedans, crossovers, coupes... even supercars. The next frontier, then, may very well be pickup trucks. And this is the latest to venture off the beaten path.

It's called the XT, and it was just revealed by its manufacturer Atlis Motor Vehicles. The battery-powered truck is slated to be built in the USA, with independent electric motors at each wheel in a rough-and-tumble pickup truck form factor that looks like it could belong to the Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado of the future.

Slated to take on the Rivian R1T and the future Tesla pickup, the Atlis XT will be available with a choice of three battery packs, offering 300, 400, or 500 miles of range (before payloads and trailers are taken into account). Either way, it's earmarked to reach 60 mph in five seconds and top out at 120 mph, with a payload capacity of up to 5,000 pounds and a gross vehicle weight rating as high as 35,000 lbs.

The four electric motors drive through a single-speed gearbox on each axle, with regenerative braking and a four-wheel independent air suspension.

It even boasts work-friendly features like a spray-in bedliner, with an available dually rear axle and long-travel off-road suspension. And with no engine block in the nose, there's a big cargo box up front to supplement the cargo bed in the back.

Atlis designed the XT pickup with cameras and monitors instead of side mirrors, and plans to roll out full autonomous driving capability to supplement the standard and optional driver-assistance systems it'll offer right out the box. That is, assuming the thing actually makes it to production – which is anything but a given when it comes to new automakers, conventional or electric.
