With a 315 hp turbo engine, Subaru aims to sell another driver car.
Subaru is continuing to stretch the performance limits of its STI sub-brand and this time with the fifth iteration of its "s" series. Those are tuned-up cars of already tuned-up variants of the Subaru WRX Impreza STI. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine has been enhanced through a weight balance between piston, connecting rod and optimized crankshaft, ECU and improved turbocharger. It now has an output of 315hp and 318 lb-ft.
The suspension system has been strengthened with Bilstein shock absorbers, flexible tower bar and flexible draw stiffener at the front that according to Subaru improve its straight line speed (though that datum was not revealed) and the car's motion is steadied when going into corners so that precise and quick turning is possible. The S206 sits on 19-inch BBS alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Brembo 6-pot brake caliper is at the front with 18-inch 2-piece type drilled disk rotors and a Brembo 4-pot with 18-inch drilled disk rotors at the rear.
There are of course a few exterior and interior changes as well. The most noticeable is the removal of the rear wing. A new front spoiler combined with different grill and bumper should improve the aerodynamics of the car. Front Seats are of the bucket type designed by Recaro and covered with leather. The steering wheel and gear shift knob are leather lapped as well. If all that is not enough than it is also offered with an option or "NBR Challenge package" to commemorate the model's class win at the 24 hours of Nurburgring race.
The package includes a carbon roof and original rear spoiler amongst other goodies. The Subaru Impreza WRX STI S206 is already on sale in Japan. STI will produce 300 units of that model and last pre-order will be received by May 7th of next year.
