BMW is all-in with battery-electric vehicles. The BMW i4 and iX are just the start. In the very near future the production-spec Concept XM SUV will debut and, come 2025, an all-new EV platform will debut. It's now time for the German automaker to lay the groundwork for the general public. The Super Bowl, America's most-watched yearly sporting event, is the perfect venue.

BMW has just released a teaser trailer for the upcoming commercial that'll star none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger as Zeus, the Greek God of lightning and weather in general. His weapon? The thunderbolt. The 60-second ad, set to air in the first quarter, will also star Salma Hayek Pinault as Hera, Zeus' wife and goddess of marriage, according to Greek mythology.

The 30-second teaser has Schwarzenegger/Zeus picking up his macchiato coffee order from a very clearly confused employee. We'll see the rest of it on Game Day, February 13. This isn't the first time Schwarzenegger has been hired by a German automaker for promotional purposes.

Back in 2018, the former Governator was on hand when Mercedes-Benz unveiled the all-new G-Class at SUV at the Detroit Auto Show. BMW won't be the only automaker promoting EVs during the Super Bowl. Kia has already announced a commercial for the EV6 that'll include a robotic dog. Not as cool as Zeus but we're still interested. And there's Nissan, which recruited the great Eugene Levy for its new Z car ad.

GM has commercial plans of its own but has yet to disclose any details. Schwarzenegger himself is clearly excited to see himself play Zeus as he's already released a movie-like poster image of himself in the role on his official Instagram account. Posted nearly a week ago, there was speculation the poster wasn't for a new movie but rather something Super Bowl-related. Only today can we confirm BMW is responsible.

We don't expect any additional BMW teasers but other automakers, such as GM, are likely to begin releasing some pre-game content of their own very soon.
