The Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula 1 team unveiled the AMR23, which will hopefully help the team move further up the grid than the seventh place it has occupied for the last two seasons. It obviously has its sights set on the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake C43 (sixth place in 2022) that made its debut last week and possibly even the McLaren MCL60 (fifth place in 2022) that debuted earlier today.

Unsurprisingly, the primary color remains green. British racing and the green hue go a long way back. First used in 1929, British Racing Green is nearly as old as the 110-year-old marque. You'd also be hard-pressed to tell the differences, but they are there. According to Aston Martin, "the AMR23 is a considerable evolution of last year's chassis, which was honed across the season into a consistent points challenger."

"In the past year, we have demonstrated the determination and belief needed to move forward, and we have constructed a brand-new car to match our vision and ambition," said Lawrence Stroll, AMF1 Executive Chairman.

Along with a new car and livery, Aston Martin has a new high-profile driver. After Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso wasted no time telling the world that he'd be leaving the French Alpine team to race for the famous British team.

Alonso is already an extremely wealthy man who has already retired once before. He's on the grid to compete and nothing more. One has to wonder what Aston Martin promised the Spaniard to make the deal happen.

We think a lot is due to the all-new factory, which will open in a few months, double the people working for the team, and a willingness to adopt new concepts and methods to become a top-tier team.

The relationships in the team will also be interesting to watch. Alonso is a notoriously difficult teammate who has historically demanded Number One status. How will this play out in a team where Alonso's teammate is the son of the man who not only owns the team but is in charge of the entire Aston Martin?

Lawrence Stoll is tasked with getting the best possible results for the F1 team and ensuring the brand sells enough DBX SUVs to keep the company from going under. Signing Fernando Alonso is a massive win for both sides of the business.

You can say what you want about Nando, but the Spanish Samurai has been consistently impressive throughout his career and is precisely what this historically mediocre team needs to kick things up a notch.

"I have always said that I could see the ambition that shines bright at AMF1. And, as we launch the car in this brand-new factory, I think everyone can now see the scale of the ambition and determination at the heart of this organization," said Alonso. "Just as important is the car - and the AMR23 looks incredibly neatly packaged and highly efficient. I was pleasantly surprised when I sampled last year's car for the very first time, and I think there is plenty of performance we can unlock together."

"I'm massively looking forward to working with Fernando. I've always got along very well with him - and it will be fantastic to race alongside him," said Lance Stroll.
