Solar panels will power the a/c.
Drivers passing out at the wheel is a real problem for endurance racers. That'swhy the FIA now requires all World Endurance Championship cars to be fitted with climate control. The problem is air conditioning systems drain engine power, especially when it’s hot. So Aston Martin has come up with an ingenious solution. Teaming up with Hanergy Global Solar, the British carmaker will test a new thin, lightweight film made up of flexible photovoltaic solar panels that can be mounted on the car’s roof and rear windshield.
The cells will power the a/c as well as other ancillary systems on Aston’s V8 Vantage GTE cars, with the system set to be in place for the Circuit of Americas in Texas, a notoriously hot event, in September.
