The V12 is being dealt a slow and painful death in the automotive world for the sole reason of it not being an eco-friendly configuration. Mercedes-Benz has maintained the unit for its Maybach S650 while the BMW 760Li will just be treated to a special edition send-off here in the USA as a means to bid farewell to its 6.6-liter unit.

Over in the UK, a handful of manufacturers have been keeping the 12-cylinder engine alive by any means necessary. Gordon Murray Automotive has already created two mid-engined performance cars with a V12 that revs past 11,000 for a very select clientele, Rolls-Royce still sells V12-powered cars, and Aston Martin has been teasing a new V12 Vantage. Well, the time for the latter is nearly here, and ahead of a final reveal, Aston has kicked the V12 Vantage's teaser campaign into overdrive with a final video.

The teaser is short and doesn't give us much detail. It showcases the power of nature with volcanic eruptions, hints at the roar of the V12, and shows brief snippets of a car in motion, before leaving with the tagline of "Never Leave Quietly." A string of tweets also once again confirms the launch date: 16 March 2022.

The Gaydon-based sports car maker's V12 sports car first appeared on the Nurburgring a few months ago. Speculation flooded forth about a new Vantage Coupe variant and it wasn't long before Aston confirmed the news with a wondrous teaser of the V12 in all its snarling glory. The V12 has a long history with the brand, despite it turning to AMG power in recent years.

As a unique front-engine rear-wheel-drive proposition, the new V12 Vantage will take the brand's smallest series production machine and shoehorn one of its largest engines under the hood.

Details about that engine are under wraps for the moment, but since the limited-edition, 690-horsepower V12 Speedster was something of a halo car, the Vantage V12 may produce less power. Then again, as the Vantage V12 will be much more focused on speed than style and will be the ultimate expression of Vantage performance, this could very well produce more than the roofless Speedster.

We've seen a couple of visual teasers of the V12 Vantage, confirming that it will have a prominent rear wing, a strong rear diffuser, and a gaping mesh grille up front. But aside from that, the brand has kept mum on many details. We'll know more this week, however, when Aston bids farewell to the V12 - at least as we know it.
