Only 19 coupes and 19 speedsters are being built.
Over the years, Aston Martin and Zagato have collaborated to produce some breathtakingly beautiful designs. To celebrate Zagato's centenary, Aston Martin is once again collaborating with the Italian coachbuilder to build the track-only DB4 GT Zagato Continuation and the stunning DBS GT Zagato that form the $7.8-million DBZ Centenary Collection.
Continuing the celebrations, Aston Martin is also teaming up with R-Reforged to revive the Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato. 19 examples of the Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato coupe are being built along with 19 speedsters. Like the DBZ Centenary Collection, both cars will be sold as a pair as part of the special "Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato Heritage Twins by R-Reforged" collection.
Aston Martin announced the project back in April last year, but we now finally know the specifications and production plans. Based on the 2011 Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato, each example features iconic Zagato design cues including a double-bubble roof on the coupe and exclusive 100th-anniversary gold Z badging. All 19 coupes and 19 speedsters will be powered by a reworked version of the V12 Vantage's naturally-aspirated 5.9-liter engine to produce 600 horsepower, which is 85 more hp more than the original.
The bespoke bodywork is all-carbon fiber and incorporates active aero and a deployable rear wing to improve stability at high speeds. Other design tweaks that deviate from the original car include center-locking 19-inch bespoke alloy wheels. Customers can specify every element of the V12 Zagato Heritage Twins, as designers can match the interior and exterior to any color sample.
The first two examples were specified by Marella Rivolta Zagato, who co-runs the Italian design house. "When I was selecting the body colors, I looked for something that would simultaneously represent our 100-year heritage and our future. The most symbolic coloors are gold and platinum, which are precious metals. Gold, an emblem of purity and distinction, is in my mind a tribute to our first century. Platinum is resistant to corrosion and has great catalytic capabilities, which is what I wish for our next 100 years!"
These cars will be presented this summer before the customer examples enter production in Q4, 2020. Production will take place at R-Reforged's new 30,000 square-feet facility in Warwick, UK.
