Reports are emanating from China that Cadillac is plotting a long wheelbase ATS that will be exclusive to the natives of the emerging superpower. Where the regular ATS is imported into the country, the ATS-L will be produced locally by the joint venture Shanghai-GM. The US carmaker plans to extend the sedan's wheelbase by around four inches. Cadillac will also expand the engine offerings as it attempts to wrestle some market share away from the upcoming long wheelbase Mercedes C-Class and BMW 335Li.

Where the ATS in China comes only with the 2.0-liter turbo, the ATS-L will come with all the powerplants across the ATS lineup, including the base 2.5-liter unit and potent 3.6-liter V6. Production is slated to start towards the end of 2014 and will be priced at the equivalent price of around $46,000.
